Ightfield Parish Council is pleased to acknowledge the efforts of Susan Bower, whose long-standing work - particularly with Calverhall in Bloom - has made a meaningful difference to the village.

Sue has dedicated considerable time and energy over the years to improving the local environment and supporting community life. Her role in Calverhall in Bloom, a not-for-profit initative which uses gardening to promote social connection and reduce isolation, has been central to its success.

Sue is regularly seen planning and maintaining the floral displays that brighten Calverhall, taking care of each detail in all weather. Beyond her horticultural work, Sue is also a reliable presence at local events, helping ensure they run smoothly - often without seeking recognition.

In appreciation of her contribution, Ightfield Parish Council nominated Sue to attend the Lord Lieutenant of Shropshire's Garden Party, held on 4th June 2025 at Orleton Hall. The event celebrates volunteers across the county whose work strengthens their communities, and we are pleased to see Sue included among them.

In a small rural area like ours, the strength of the community depends on people stepping forward. Sue has done just that - consistently and quietly - for many years. Her recognition is well-earned, and we hope that it encourages others to get involved in whatever way they can with supporting local organisations.

Thank you Sue for everything you continue to do for Calverhall.
