About Us

From Strategic to operational and capital plans From Strategic to operational and capital plans

Parish councils form the first level of local government in England and are statutory bodies created by legislation, notably the Local Government Act of 1894. They operate within a legal framework set out in English law, and serve as the voice of the community at a grassroots level.

Ightfield Parish Council exists to represent local interests, respond to the needs of residents, and work to improve the parish for everyone who lives and works here.

What We Do

As a legally recognised body, Ightfield Parish Council has the authority to act on behalf of the local community. We receive funding through the parish precept—part of the council tax—which is used to support services, projects, and facilities that benefit the parish.

The council's responsibilities cover a broad range of local issues, such as:

  • Planning Consultation: We are formally consulted on all planning applications within the parish, offering local insight to ensure developments are appropriate and in line with community interests.
  • Care of Local Assets: The Council looks after various local facilities, including bus shelters, footpaths, noticeboards, and recreational spaces.
  • Community Projects and Events: We help to promote community well-being by supporting events and activities that bring people together.
  • Environmental Responsibility: We contribute to initiatives that protect and enhance our natural surroundings.
  • Support for Local Services: By working in partnership with higher-level councils, we help ensure that essential services continue to serve our residents effectively.

All decisions are made by elected councillors during meetings that are open to the public, ensuring transparency and accountability. Our finances are carefully managed and regularly audited in accordance with national regulations.

Supporting Our Community

The Council is committed to enhancing life in Ightfield Calverhall and representing the best interests of its parishioners. We are here to listen, act, and deliver improvements based on what matters most to our community. From small-scale improvements to larger initiatives, we are guided by the views of those who live here.

We value resident involvement and encourage everyone to have their say. Your input helps shape the future of our parish and ensures that decisions reflect the will of the community.
